Oil separator, what is it? The main function is to separate water from oil. Gases and vapours containing oil are produced in the crankcase. Oil separators vent these gases and vapours and clean them of oil residues. This returns to the crankcase and gases and vapours are discharged via the throttle valve.
Oil separators can become clogged, causing great pressure in the crankcase. The oil can then appear in various places, for example on the oil dipstick.
Oil separators ensure lower oil consumption in the engine and thus help to meet the strict Euro emission standards.
