While repairing the engines 1,8TSI - especially with code CDAA - mechanics are often meeting particular problems with pistons. During the early years of manufacture of the vehicles, manufacturers were installing pistons with the pin of 21mm, later ŠKODA-VW changed it and they started with 23mm piston pin. During the repair and replacement of the pistons, the OE manufacturers recommend to use the 23mm pin for the right engines. The problem occurs when the engine has 21mm pin from the manufacture, then it is necessary to replace the connecting rod OE 06J98401H as well. Up until now there was only OE version of these rods sold in the kit of 4 pieces costing 700EUR. Now, the connecting rods are also available at the aftermarket, so you can do the replacement for a reasonable cost. We offer single connecting rods from Kolbenschmidt or ET Engineteam brand.
